Chiredzi Wildlife Ranch (Zimbabwe)

Weather…

The Chiredzi Wildlife Ranch is located in the southeastern Lowveld of Zimbabwe and is a prime example of the sustainable integration of conservation and commercial land use. This region is characterized by a hot, dry climate often unsuitable for traditional livestock farming, leading many ranches to specialize in preserving indigenous wildlife. The ranch is part of the larger Save Valley Conservancy, one of the world's largest private protected areas, providing habitat for the 'Big Five.' Particularly successful here is the protection of black rhinoceroses and African wild dogs, whose populations are strictly monitored. Beside ecotourism, sustainable hunting plays a role in funding extensive anti-poaching units. The terrain features dense mopane woodlands and open grass savannas intersected by seasonal rivers. Collaboration with local communities is a central aspect to reduce pressure on natural resources and provide educational opportunities.
