Citadel of the Ho Dynasty (Vietnam)

Weather…

The Citadel of the Ho Dynasty in Thanh Hoa Province is an exceptional example of Southeast Asian fortress architecture from the late 14th century. It was constructed in 1397 under the direction of Ho Quy Ly, who shortly thereafter founded the Ho Dynasty and moved the capital to this location. The site is distinguished by its massive construction using giant limestone blocks, which were precisely joined without the use of mortar. The fortress was built according to Feng Shui principles on a plain between the Ma and Buoi rivers, surrounded by protective mountains. Since 2011, the site has been a UNESCO World Heritage site, as it documents the exchange of Neo-Confucian values and construction techniques. Despite the short reign of the Ho Dynasty, the structure has remained largely intact for centuries. Today, visitors can explore the monumental gates and parts of the outer walls that reflect the former power of the empire.
