Villa of Batlle y Ordóñez (Uruguay)

Weather…

The Villa of Batlle y Ordóñez, officially known as the Residencia Presidencial de Suárez y Reyes, is the official residence of the President of Uruguay. Located in the Prado neighborhood of Montevideo, the property was originally built in the early 1900s. It was acquired by the state in 1925 to serve as the residence for then-president José Batlle y Ordóñez, although he never lived there. The first president to officially occupy the residence was Gabriel Terra in 1933. The building, designed by architect Juan María Aubriot, features an elegant eclectic style with French influences, surrounded by extensive gardens designed by French landscape architect Charles Racine. Over the years, the residence has been the setting for countless meetings with heads of state, diplomatic receptions, and important political discussions. Although it is not open to the public, it remains a powerful symbol of the Uruguayan presidency and a key site for affairs of state, reflecting the nation's political legacy amidst its serene, manicured surroundings.
