Telecommunications Tower (Uruguay)

Weather…

The Telecommunications Tower, also known as Torre Antel, is a major architectural landmark in Montevideo and, at 157.6 meters, is the tallest building in Uruguay. Designed by the internationally renowned Uruguayan architect Carlos Ott, the tower was constructed between 1997 and 2002. It serves as the headquarters for the state-owned telecommunications company, ANTEL. The tower's design is modernist, featuring a glass facade that defines the city's skyline. The complex includes not only office spaces but also a cultural center, a telecommunications museum, and a concert hall. An observation deck on the 26th floor previously offered panoramic views of the Bay of Montevideo and the city but was closed to the public for cost-related reasons. Despite initial controversies surrounding its construction costs, the tower has become a symbol of modernity and technological progress in Uruguay.
