Guandu Nature Park (Taiwan)

Weather…

Guandu Nature Park is situated at the junction of the Tamsui and Keelung Rivers in northern Taipei. This 57-hectare area was officially designated as a nature reserve in 2001 to preserve one of the last remaining wetland habitats in the region. It serves as a critical stopover for thousands of migratory birds along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, with over 200 bird species documented to date. The park's landscape consists of freshwater marshes, brackish ponds, and extensive reed beds that support a rich array of biodiversity. Beyond its ecological significance, the park functions as a major center for environmental education and scientific research in Taiwan. Managed by the Wild Bird Society of Taipei, it represents a successful model of cooperation between the government and non-governmental organizations. Historically, the Guandu Plain was a significant agricultural area before urbanization necessitated the protection of these vital natural resources.
