Bernex is located on the left bank of the Rhone in the southwest of the canton of Geneva and is one of the most important wine-growing communities in the region. Geographically, the town is dominated by the Signal de Bernex, an elevation that at 506 meters gives one of the best viewpoints in the canton, providing wide views of the Lake Geneva basin, the Jura, and the Alps. The community has been able to maintain its rural character despite its proximity to the city of Geneva. The architecture is characterized by well-preserved farmhouses in the old village core and modern residential settlements that blend harmoniously into the landscape. The economy of Bernex is strongly rooted in the primary sector, particularly in viticulture and horticulture, with local wines regularly receiving awards. In recent years, the town has also developed into an attractive residential community for people working in Geneva but seeking peace in the countryside. Historically, settlement can be traced back to Roman times, as indicated by archaeological finds. The demographics show a growing and international population, typical of the Geneva area. Bernex also has a diverse range of leisure activities with hiking trails along the Rhone and cultural events celebrating the local terroir. The connection to the Geneva transport network by tram and bus is excellent and promotes sustainable mobility.
