Toledo Cathedral (Spain)

Weather…

The Santa Iglesia Catedral Primada de Toledo is widely considered the magnum opus of Spanish Gothic architecture and the spiritual center of Spain. Construction began in 1226 during the reign of Ferdinand III on the footprint of the city's former main mosque, which itself had replaced a Visigothic church. It was not until 1493, during the era of the Catholic Monarchs, that the monumental five-nave building was completed. The cathedral blends French Gothic influences with Moorish Mudéjar elements, particularly visible in the horseshoe arch architecture of the triforium. An absolute highlight of the interior is 'El Transparente', a Baroque masterpiece of alabaster, marble, and bronze, which is dramatically illuminated by heavenly light streaming through a masterfully cut skylight in the vaulted ceiling.
