Socuéllamos is a town in the province of Ciudad Real, in the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha. It is widely known as the 'Patria del Vino' (Homeland of Wine) and is one of the largest wine producers in Europe, mainly from the Airén white grape variety. The landscape is defined by an endless sea of vineyards stretching to the horizon. A must for visitors is the Torre del Vino, a modern museum dedicated to wine culture, offering interactive exhibits and tastings. The most important religious building is the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. Socuéllamos is also part of the Don Quixote Route. Getting there is easy by car via the A-43 motorway or by train, as the town has its own station. The best time to visit is late summer to experience the grape harvest festival (Fiesta de la Vendimia), but wine lovers will find its charm all year round.
