Alcàsser is a municipality in the comarca of Horta Sud, in the Valencian Community, Spain. The town has a rich history dating back to the Moorish period, as evidenced by its name, derived from the Arabic word for 'fortress' or 'castle'. Today, Alcàsser is a modern town that has preserved its agricultural roots. It is surrounded by a vast expanse of fertile land, the 'Huerta', where mainly oranges, but also vegetables, are grown. Cultural life in Alcàsser is lively and steeped in local traditions. The town celebrates its festivals, especially those in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Virgen del Carmen in the summer, with great passion. During these festivities, the streets fill with parades, music, and fireworks. Sights include the parish church of Our Lady of the Assumption. The proximity of the Albufera Natural Park features additional opportunities for recreation and nature experiences. The gastronomy in Alcàsser is typically Valencian. Paella is the undisputed star dish, prepared authentically in many local restaurants. Other rice dishes such as 'Arròs al forn' (baked rice) and 'Arròs a banda' are also very popular. The fresh produce from the surrounding Huerta guarantees the quality and flavor of the local cuisine. The town has several bakeries offering traditional sweets and pastries. Alcàsser is located only about 15 kilometers south of Valencia and is very well connected to the capital. Regular bus lines provide a quick and convenient link. By car, the town is easily accessible via the V-31 motorway. The Mediterranean climate ensures pleasant temperatures throughout the year, but the best times to visit are spring and autumn to avoid the extreme summer heat and to fully enjoy the festivals and nature.
