Sant Antoni de Portmany is the second-largest town on Ibiza, set in one of the Mediterranean's most spectacular natural bays. Once a quiet fishing village known to the Romans as Portus Magnus, it evolved in the 1980s into a global destination for youth culture and electronic music. The town is world-renowned for its 'Sunset Strip', a coastal path home to legendary venues like Café del Mar and Mambo, where the tradition of playing chill-out music during sunset was born. In the heart of the town stands the unique 'Egg of Columbus' monument, reinforcing the local theory that Christopher Columbus was actually born in Ibiza. The Passeig de ses Fonts, the main square, features beautiful illuminated fountains and Mediterranean gardens. Sant Antoni serves as a major hub for water taxis that whisk visitors to nearby pristine coves like Cala Bassa and Cala Conta. While the West End district remains famous for its high-energy nightlife, the town's modern marina and scenic coastline also offer a more sophisticated side of Balearic island life.
