Water temperature…
Lanjarón is widely known as the city of water, tucked away on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada. The town's centerpiece is its Balneario (thermal spa), an imposing early 20th-century building where healing waters from six different springs are utilized for treatments. Lanjarón mineral water is a household name across Spain. Walking through the town, visitors encounter numerous decorative fountains, many adorned with traditional tiles and verses by poets like Federico García Lorca. Historically, Lanjarón held great strategic significance, evidenced by the ruins of its Moorish castle (Castillo de los Moros). The architecture in the historic center is quintessential Alpujarran: narrow alleys, whitewashed houses, and flat roofs with distinctive chimneys. The Water Museum on the outskirts provides insight into the ecological importance of local spring resources. The town peaks in excitement on June 23rd during the 'Water and Ham Festival' (Fiesta del Agua y del Jamón). To celebrate Saint John's Night, a massive water fight takes place, with thousands of liters flooding the streets. Gastronomically, the town is famous for its air-dried ham and local honey. Hikers often use Lanjarón as a starting point for exploring the Sierra Nevada National Park.
