Conil de la Frontera is a gem on the Andalusian Atlantic coast, known as the Costa de la Luz. This former fishing village has managed to preserve its authentic character, featuring narrow whitewashed streets and flower-filled patios. Conil is world-famous for its 'Almadraba' tuna fishing, a 3,000-year-old technique introduced by the Phoenicians that is still used today. As a result, bluefin tuna (Atún Rojo) is the star of the local gastronomy. The historical landmark of the town is the Torre de Guzmán, a 14th-century tower built by Guzmán el Bueno as part of the coastal defenses. The surrounding area features some of Spain's most spectacular beaches, from the expansive Playa de los Bateles to the secluded, reddish-cliffed Roche coves (Calas de Roche). The strong Atlantic waves make it a favorite spot for surfers. While peaceful for most of the year, the village transforms into a lively hub with a lively nightlife during the summer months.

Conil is very safe; just don't leave valuables unattended on the beach. The Levante wind can blow parasols away, so anchor them well. In summer, never swim under a red flag – currents are no joke.
Conil speaks fast Andalusian Spanish with dropped endings. English works in beach bars during summer, but in the old town a smiling 'Hola' and 'Gracias' goes further than perfect grammar. Memorise 'atún rojo' (bluefin tuna) and 'la cuenta' (the bill).
Playa de los Bateles is the remarkable main beach of Conil de la Frontera, situated right on the Atlantic coast.
