Ringgi Cove, situated on the southern coast of Kolombangara Island in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands, is a prominent industrial settlement with a long history in forestry. Developed in the 1960s as a base for large-scale logging operations, it later became the headquarters for Kolombangara Forest Products Ltd (KFPL). Unlike many other regions in the Solomon Islands, Ringgi Cove operates on a model of sustainable plantation forestry, cultivating fast-growing hardwoods for the international market. The infrastructure of Ringgi Cove includes a protected deep-water harbor facilitating the export of logs and processed timber, alongside workshops and residential housing for workers. Geographically, the cove is rimmed by steep, forested slopes that rise toward the crater edge of the extinct Kolombangara volcano. Ringgi Cove currently stands as a model for the transition from exploitative logging to certified, ecologically responsible forest management in the Pacific region.
