Sentosa Island is a popular resort and leisure destination located off the southern coast of Singapore's main island. Originally a British military fortress known as Pulau Blakang Mati, the island was transformed into a recreational hub in the 1970s and renamed Sentosa, which means 'peace and tranquility.' The 5-square-kilometer island is home to numerous attractions, including Universal Studios Singapore, the S.E.A. Aquarium, and the Adventure Cove Waterpark. In addition to high-tech theme parks, Sentosa features over two kilometers of sheltered sandy beaches, namely Siloso, Palawan, and Tanjong Beach. Historically, it is notable for Fort Siloso, the only preserved coastal fort in Singapore dating back to World War II. Accessible via a causeway, cable car, and monorail (Sentosa Express), the island attracts more than 20 million visitors annually as a premier island getaway.
