St. George's Church is an Anglican place of worship located on Dempsey Hill, within the grounds of the former Tanglin Barracks, completed in 1913. Designed by architect William Henry Stanbury in the Romanesque style, the building is constructed from unplastered red bricks, giving it a distinctive European appearance in a tropical setting. Originally built to serve the British troops stationed at the nearby barracks, it remains a significant symbol of Singapore's military and colonial history. During the Japanese occupation from 1942 to 1945, the church was used as an ammunition store but remained structurally intact throughout the conflict. In 1978, the structure was gazetted as a National Monument of Singapore, recognizing its architectural merit and historical value. Today, it continues to serve as an active church, known for its serene atmosphere, simple interior, and the surrounding lush greenery.
