Chauve Souris Viewpoint

A quiet spot on the shore overlooking the small offshore island.

Cote d'Or is the tourist heart of Praslin Island and is named after the fine, almost golden sand of its main beach Anse Volbert, the name evokes the famous Côte d'Or of Brittany. The kilometer-long beach is protected by an offshore coral reef that keeps the water calm year-round, making it one of the safest bathing spots in the entire archipelago. Just offshore lies the small Chauve Souris ("Bat") islet, reachable in a few minutes by glass-bottom boat or kayak. Cote d'Or hosts numerous four- and five-star resorts such as Paradise Sun and Acajou Beach Resort, several diving schools, and Creole restaurants. On Wednesdays the beach promenade hosts local markets selling handicrafts and spices. Behind the beach rise hills covered in dense vegetation, including the famous Vallée de Mai National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the home of the iconic Coco de Mer palm.
