Kicukiro is one of the three districts that make up the city of Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. It is located in the southeastern part of the city and is a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial areas. Kicukiro has experienced rapid growth in recent years, with the construction of many modern apartments and office buildings. The district is home to several important institutions, including the main campus of IPRC Kigali (Integrated Polytechnic Regional College) and the headquarters of the Rwandan army. One of the most famous and tragic sites is the Kicukiro College of Technology (formerly ETO), which serves as a genocide memorial. Here, thousands of Tutsi who were under the protection of UN soldiers were abandoned and murdered in 1994. Today, Kicukiro is a bustling and important part of the growing metropolis of Kigali.
