The Steam Locomotive Museum in Reșița is the largest open-air industrial museum of its kind in Romania and a vital landmark of European industrial heritage. Founded in 1972 to commemorate the centenary of locomotive manufacturing in the city, the museum features a collection of 16 historic steam engines. The star of the collection is the 'Resicza' locomotive, built in 1872, which was the first steam engine ever manufactured in Southeast Europe. The exhibits trace over a century of technological evolution, showcasing various models used for forestry, shunting, and mainline transport. All locomotives are displayed on original tracks within a landscaped park, allowing visitors to appreciate the scale and craftsmanship of these iron giants. Reșița was for long the industrial heart of the Banat region, and this museum serves as a tribute to the engineering skills of local workers. Located in the Triaj area, the museum is free to enter and remains a favorite spot for families and railway enthusiasts alike. It stands as a powerful testament to the pioneering industrial spirit that put Reșița on the global map.
