The Museum of the Highland Banat in Reșița, founded in 1957, is the most important institution dedicated to researching industrial history in southwestern Romania. The museum documents the evolution of metallurgy and mining in the region, activities that began to develop intensely as early as the 18th century. The institution's collections include over 80,000 items, including rare minerals, Roman-era archaeological artifacts, and technical exhibits from the golden age of the Reșița works. Special emphasis is placed on the production of steam engines, a field in which the city held regional supremacy. The museum also houses significant numismatic and ethnographic sections, illustrating the multi-ethnic coexistence specific to the Banat region. It serves as an active documentation center for geology and the history of technology, providing visitors with a broad perspective on the industrial transformation of an area that was the technological heart of Eastern Europe.
