Paço de São Cristóvão (Portugal)

Weather…

The Paço de São Cristóvão in Montemor-o-Novo was once a magnificent royal residence located in the heart of the Alentejo region. Built in the 14th century during the reign of King Dinis, it served for centuries as a preferred summer palace and hunting lodge for various Portuguese monarchs. The palace was the setting for several significant historical events, including royal weddings and important sessions of the "Cortes" (parliamentary assemblies). Its architecture featured a harmonious blend of Gothic and Manueline styles, with elegant arches and ornate stonework decorating the facades. Unfortunately, the complex fell into decline after the 18th century, and today only ruins remain, though they still clearly hint at its former splendor. The remnants are part of the historic citadel and are protected as a national monument.
