Casa da Música in Porto is a world-renowned landmark of contemporary architecture, designed by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. Completed in 2005, it was a centerpiece of Porto's tenure as European Capital of Culture and now serves as the permanent home of the Porto National Orchestra. Its striking, polyhedral shape made of white concrete breaks away from the conventional layouts of concert halls, making it an icon of the Boavista district. One of its most innovative features is the use of large, corrugated glass walls at both ends of the main auditorium, which foster a unique visual dialogue between the performers inside and the city outside. The building houses the Suggia Hall, a 1238-seat venue celebrated for its exceptional acoustic properties achieved through precise engineering and material selection. In addition to the main stage, the structure includes multiple spaces for chamber music, digital recording, and educational projects. The interior design successfully integrates modern industrial materials with traditional Portuguese elements, such as azulejo tiles in specific VIP areas, making it an animated cultural hub for diverse musical genres.
