Romblon
Romblon, often called the 'Marble Capital,' is a fascinating destination for travelers wishing to combine aesthetics and nature. Romblon Town on the eponymous island is the center of the marble industry, where visitors can watch artisans carving elaborate statues. An absolute highlight is Bonbon Beach, known for its spectacular sandbar that stretches far into the sea at low tide, offering crystal-clear, shallow water. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills and a pristine coastline. In addition to the main island, Romblon province provides other treasures like Sibuyan Island, often called the 'Galapagos of Asia' due to its unique flora and fauna. History buffs should visit St. Joseph Cathedral and Fort San Andres, which features a great view over the harbor. Culinarily, the region is famous for 'Sarsa,' a local dish made of tiny shrimp, coconut meat, and chili. Access is either by domestic flight to the neighboring island of Tablas or by overnight ferry from Batangas directly to Romblon Town. The best time to visit is from January to May, when the sea is calm and visibility for diving and snorkeling is excellent. Romblon has maintained a quiet and friendly atmosphere as it has not yet been developed by mass tourism. It is the well-suited place for travelers who enjoy hiking, discovering hidden coves, and appreciating local craftsmanship. A stay here feels like a journey back in time to a more relaxed and beautiful Philippines.
