Sibuyan Island in Romblon province is considered one of the most ecologically intact places on Earth. Never having been connected to any mainland, it developed a unique array of flora and fauna, earning it the title "Galapagos of Asia." The island's centerpiece is Mount Guiting-Guiting, whose jagged, sawtooth peaks offer one of the most challenging trekking experiences in the Philippines. Its dense primary rainforest stretches from the summits almost to the shoreline. For nature enthusiasts, Sibuyan provides pristine wonders like the Cantingas River, repeatedly cited as the cleanest river in the country. Its cool, crystal-clear waters are a favorite for swimming. Numerous waterfalls, such as Dagubdub Falls, are also accessible via jungle trails. Sibuyan is a sanctuary of silence, far removed from mass tourism, making it great for eco-tourism and serious mountaineers. Local cuisine is simple and authentic, focusing on island seafood and traditional root crops. Access is primarily by ferry from Batangas City or Roxas City, docking at Magdiwang. Due to the difficulty of the mountain trails, the best time to visit is during the dry months of March to May. Those aiming for the summit of Mt. Guiting-Guiting must employ experienced local guides.
