The Hundred Islands National Park in Alaminos is one of the oldest protected areas in the Philippines. Despite its name, the park consists of 124 islands at low tide and 123 at high tide, jutting out of the blue sea like green mushrooms. Only a few of these islands are developed for tourism, including Governor’s Island, Quezon Island, and Marcos Island. Visitors can hop from island to island, swim in hidden caves, or enjoy panoramic views from lookouts overlooking the entire archipelago. The underwater world is just as impressive as the landscape above water. Snorkelers can admire giant clams, which are cultivated here as part of a conservation program. For thrill-seekers, there are ziplines between islands and opportunities for helmet diving. Culinarily, the region is famous for 'Alaminos Longganisa,' a spicy local sausage that is a must-try. The journey from Manila takes about four to five hours by bus. The handy travel time is between November and May, during the dry season. During this phase, the sea is calm and the water clear, making island transfers safe and pleasant. Many locals visit the park on weekends, so a weekday visit is recommended to better enjoy the peace of nature. The park is a shining example of ecotourism and the protection of marine habitats.
