Mount Samat National Shrine (Philippines)

Weather…

The Mount Samat National Shrine, also known as Dambana ng Kagitingan (Shrine of Valor), is located at the summit of Mount Samat in Pilar, Bataan. It was built to honor the heroism and sacrifice of Filipino and American soldiers during World War II, specifically during the Fall of Bataan in 1942. The most prominent feature of the shrine is the 92-meter high memorial cross, which is one of the tallest of its kind in the world. The complex also consists of a colonnade with marble walls inscribed with the history of the defense of Bataan and bronze bas-reliefs. Visitors can take an elevator to an observation deck located inside the arms of the cross, offering panoramic views of the Bataan Peninsula and Manila Bay. Inaugurated in 1970, the shrine is the focal point for the annual Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) commemorations. Below the colonnade is a war museum that displays historical artifacts, including weapons and uniforms used during the conflict. The shrine stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of freedom and resilience against foreign occupation.
