Bataan Death March Marker Zero (Philippines)

Weather…

The Bataan Death March Kilometer Zero Marker represents the starting point of one of the greatest human tragedies of World War II. Located in Mariveles, Bataan, this simple white obelisk marks where, in April 1942, tens of thousands of Filipino and American prisoners of war were forced by the Japanese army to begin an exhausting march of over 100 kilometers to Camp O'Donnell. Deprived of water, food, and medical care in the tropical heat, thousands of soldiers perished along the way. The site is a place of profound reflection and respect, serving as a painful reminder of the cost of freedom and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of atrocities. Similar markers are found along the entire route of suffering.
