Toromocho Mine (Peru)

Weather…

The Toromocho Mine, located in the Junín Region, is one of Peru's most modern and technologically advanced copper projects. It is operated by Minera Chinalco Peru, a subsidiary of the Aluminum Corporation of China. Situated in the Morococha mining district at an extreme altitude of approximately 4,500 meters (14,800 feet), the mine targets a massive porphyry copper deposit that also yields silver and molybdenum. A unique aspect of the project involved the complete relocation of the original town of Morococha to the purpose-built town of Nueva Morococha to make way for the expanding open-pit operations. Toromocho employs cutting-edge processing facilities, including some of the world's largest semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mills. Despite the logistical and physiological challenges of operating at such heights, the mine is highly efficient and contributes significantly to the trade volume between Peru and China. Long-term expansion plans aim to further increase daily processing capacity to leverage the site's vast reserves.
