Weather…

Ein Sultan Spring, historically referred to as Elisha's Spring, is the lifeblood of Jericho and the fundamental reason for the city's claim as the oldest continuously inhabited settlement on Earth. For over 10,000 years, this natural source has consistently discharged roughly 4,500 liters of freshwater per minute, enabling agriculture to flourish in a harsh desert environment. The spring is situated adjacent to Tell es-Sultan, the archaeological mound where remains of Neolithic structures, including a famous stone tower, were discovered. According to biblical tradition, the prophet Elisha healed the waters of the spring by casting salt into it, a miracle that cemented its importance in religious history. Today, the spring remains the primary water source for the entire oasis, feeding an intricate network of irrigation channels that sustain local date palm groves and banana plantations. Its reliability ensures that Jericho remains a green sanctuary even during the peak of the scorching summer heat.
