Passu
Passu is a haven for trekkers and nature lovers in northern Pakistan. The most iconic sight is the Tupopdan peaks, often called "Passu Cones," which rise majestically above the Karakoram Highway. The village has a glimpse into the serene life of the Wakhi people, known for their hospitality and rich culture. Tourists visit to cross the famous Passu Suspension Bridge, a thrilling walk over the Hunza River that provides wide-open views of the surrounding mountains. The region is home to two of the most accessible glaciers in Pakistan: the Passu Glacier and the Batura Glacier. Batura is one of the longest non-polar glaciers in the world. Hiking to the base of these glaciers is a popular activity, providing close-up views of ice formations and turquoise meltwater streams. The landscape is a stark contrast between lush apricot orchards in the village and the rugged, snow-capped peaks that tower over it. The best time to visit is from May to October when the weather is mild. Local cuisine features traditional dishes like Chapshuro and fresh apricots. Travelers usually arrive via the Karakoram Highway from Gilgit or Karimabad. It is an excellent destination for those seeking tranquility away from the more crowded tourist spots, offering a raw and authentic mountain experience in one of the most dramatic settings on Earth.
