Mapo Hall (Nigeria)

Weather…

Mapo Hall in Ibadan is a magnificent example of colonial architecture, perched atop Mapo Hill, the highest elevation in the city. Completed in 1929, the building was designed by engineer Robert Taffy Jones to serve as an administrative and civic center for the region. Its architectural style is Palladian, featuring massive Doric columns that give it the appearance of a classical Greek temple. Over the decades, Mapo Hall has been the venue for numerous landmark political rallies and significant social gatherings, making it a powerful symbol of Yoruba political history. From its grand veranda, visitors can enjoy a sweeping panoramic view of Ibadan's famous sea of rust-colored roofs. In 2007, the building underwent an extensive renovation to restore its historic grandeur while continuing to serve as a venue for official ceremonies and community events. It remains one of Nigeria's most well-preserved monuments from the British colonial era.
