Cocoa House in Ibadan, originally named 'Agbe L'Oba', is a historic landmark and was the first skyscraper built in tropical Africa. Officially commissioned in 1965, the building stands approximately 105 meters tall with 26 floors. It was entirely funded by the proceeds from the cocoa trade, showcasing the immense economic wealth of Nigeria's Western Region at the time. During the 1960s, it held the title of the tallest building in West Africa and served as a symbol of national pride and agricultural prosperity. Despite suffering significant damage from a fire in 1985, the tower was meticulously renovated in the 1990s. Today, it houses various corporate offices and institutions, remaining a proud monument to the pivotal role cocoa played in the development of the Nigerian economy.
