Yankari is Nigeria's premier wildlife reserve and a paradise for eco-tourists. Located in Bauchi State, it hosts the country's largest elephant population, along with hippos, baboons, and a vast array of birds. The highlight for visitors is the Wikki Warm Springs, natural thermal springs with crystal clear water that stay at a constant 31°C year-round. Besides safaris, guests can explore the Marshall Caves, ancient cave dwellings carved into sandstone. The landscape consists of savanna and gallery forests along the Gaji River. Accommodation within the park ranges from simple huts to comfortable suites. Local cuisine features northern Nigerian staples like Tuwo. Access is usually via Bauchi or Jos. Guided safaris in specially converted vehicles are available within the park. The best time for wildlife viewing is during the late dry season from December to April, when animals congregate around water sources.
