Pomene is one of Mozambique's most untouched spots, famous for its spectacular lagoon and the adjacent nature reserve. The location provides a unique mix of mangrove forests, giant white sand dunes, and azure waters. Pomene is also renowned for the ruins of the 'Old Hotel,' which was once a luxury destination and now provides a mystical backdrop for photographers. Visitors come here to enjoy absolute tranquility, watch birds in the mangroves, or try stand-up paddling in the protected lagoon. The offshore waters are rich in marine life, offering excellent opportunities for fishing and snorkeling. Nature takes center stage here, and there are only a few, mostly eco-oriented accommodations. Remote beauty comes with a price: getting there requires a robust 4x4 vehicle and involves long sandy tracks through the African bush. There is no significant infrastructure, which defines its appeal for adventurers. The best time to visit is the dry season from May to October, when temperatures are pleasant and the roads remain most navigable.
