Pembroke is considered the youngest town in Malta, located on the northeast coast just north of St. Julian's. The area was originally developed as a British military base in the mid-19th century, with the first barracks constructed between 1860 and 1862. Much of the town's current residential infrastructure consists of converted former military buildings, giving it a unique architectural identity characterized by wide streets and limestone blocks. It was named after Sidney Herbert, the 14th Earl of Pembroke, who served as the British Secretary of State for War. Since the 1990s, Pembroke has evolved into a bustling residential community and an educational hub, hosting numerous international schools and training centers. The town is also known for its rugged coastline, which contains one of the last remaining stretches of natural karstland in Malta, designated as a protected Natura 2000 site.
