Vittoriosa, also widely known by its older name Birgu, is the most historic of the 'Three Cities' and a cornerstone of Maltese heritage. Situated on a narrow peninsula within the Grand Harbour, it became the first administrative center for the Order of Saint John upon their arrival in 1530. Birgu stood at the front lines during the Great Siege of 1565, successfully resisting the Ottoman Empire, which earned it the title 'Città Vittoriosa' (Victorious City). At the peninsula's tip stands the formidable Fort St. Angelo, a site of continuous military importance since the medieval era. The town's narrow, winding streets are lined with historic Auberges and the unique Inquisitor’s Palace, one of the few surviving examples of its kind. Today, Vittoriosa perfectly blends its medieval ambiance with a prestigious yacht marina and high-quality cultural sites like the Malta Maritime Museum.
