Al-Baida Zoo (Libya)

Weather…

The Al-Baida Zoo is situated in the photogenic Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain) region of northeastern Libya and is one of the few facilities of its kind in the country. Thanks to the mild Mediterranean climate and an elevation exceeding 600 meters, the zoo provides a comfortable environment for both animals and visitors alike. The facility houses a variety of animal species, including both native North African fauna and exotic species. A special emphasis is placed on educational outreach for children and youth to raise awareness about wildlife conservation and biodiversity. The surrounding pine and juniper forests of the Green Mountain provide a natural backdrop that sets this zoo apart from other urban facilities. Despite challenging political conditions in recent years, the grounds are continuously maintained to serve as a recreational retreat for the people of Cyrenaica. The zoo maintains close ties with the scientific community at the nearby Omar Al-Mukhtar University.
