Mutla Ridge Battlefield (Kuwait)

Weather…

Mutla Ridge is the highest geographic point in Kuwait and the site of one of the most significant military engagements of the 1991 Gulf War. Located approximately 40 kilometers northwest of Kuwait City, this strategic elevation overlooks Highway 80, the main artery connecting Kuwait to Iraq. During the final stages of Operation Desert Storm in late February 1991, the ridge and the pass below became the scene of the 'Highway of Death,' where Coalition air forces decimated a massive retreating convoy of Iraqi military vehicles. The bottleneck created by the ridge's terrain prevented the retreat, leading to a decisive victory for the liberation forces. Today, while the wreckage has been cleared, the area remains a powerful historical reference for Kuwait's liberation and sovereignty. The ridge itself rises to about 306 meters above sea level, providing a rare panoramic vantage point over the flat desert landscape and the Kuwait Bay.
