Al Jahra Red Fort (Kuwait)

Weather…

The Al Jahra Red Fort, locally known as Qasr al-Ahmar, is a preeminent historical fortification located in the Al Jahra Governorate of Kuwait. Erected in 1914 during the reign of Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah, the fort was strategically positioned to defend the vital Al Jahra oasis against desert incursions. It gained historical prominence as the site of the Battle of Jahra in October 1920, where Kuwaiti defenders repelled a significant siege by Ikhwan forces. The fort's architecture is characterized by its rectangular layout, four formidable corner towers, and thick mud-brick walls that provided thermal insulation against the harsh climate. A central well within the courtyard was essential for sustaining the defenders during historical conflicts. Currently, the site operates as a museum and cultural landmark, preserving the traditional military architecture of the early 20th century and serving as a testament to Kuwait's historical struggle for sovereignty.
