Wafra Oil Field (Kuwait)

Weather…

The Wafra oil field is located in southern Kuwait within the Divided Zone between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Discovered in 1954, it spans an area of approximately 5,000 square kilometers, making it one of the most significant onshore fields in the region. Operations are conducted jointly by the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC) and Saudi Chevron. Wafra is renowned for its vast reserves of heavy crude oil, found in various geological layers such as the Eocene and Ratawi reservoirs. To extract this oil, advanced thermal recovery methods like steam flooding are employed to reduce the crude's viscosity. After a multi-year suspension due to political deliberations, production was resumed in 2020. The field is a central component of the energy strategies of both nations and secures long-term export capacities. The infrastructure includes extensive facilities for oil, gas, and water separation as well as modern loading terminals.
