Burabay National Park (Kazakhstan)

Weather…

Burabay National Park, often called the 'Kazakh Switzerland', is a scenic oasis of granite rocks, pine forests, and sapphire-blue lakes that rises unexpectedly from the arid steppe of northern Kazakhstan. Established in 1997, the park protects a unique ecosystem that contrasts sharply with the surrounding landscape. The scenery is characterized by bizarrely shaped rocks, sculpted by millions of years of wind erosion, bearing names like 'Jumbaktas' (Mysterious Stone) or 'Okzhetpes'. Among these rocks lie fourteen larger and numerous smaller lakes, of which Lake Burabay is the most famous. The dense forests consist mainly of pines and birches and provide habitat for deer, wild boars, and a variety of bird species. The park is a popular destination for Kazakh and international tourists who come for hiking, swimming, boating, and climbing. Numerous legends and myths are associated with the rocks and lakes, adding an extra mystical dimension to the landscape.
