Kokshetau, situated on the southern edge of the West Siberian Plain, is the administrative center of the Akmola Region in northern Kazakhstan. Founded in 1824 as a military outpost, the city is picturesquely located on the shores of Lake Kopa at the foot of the Kokshetau Mountains. Its name translates to 'Blue-Green Mountain' in Kazakh, an allusion to the dense coniferous forests in the surrounding area. Kokshetau serves as a key regional hub for education, culture, and industry, with food processing and mechanical engineering being the primary sectors. The city is also the gateway to the Burabay resort area, often dubbed the 'Kazakh Switzerland.' Mining activities, particularly gold and precious metal extraction, occur in the vicinity. The urban environment blends Soviet-era architecture with modern parks and religious landmarks like the Nauan Hazret Mosque.
