Takeda Castle Ruins (Japan)

Weather…

The Takeda Castle Ruins in Hyogo Prefecture are world-renowned as the 'Machu Picchu of Japan' or the 'Castle in the Sky' (Tenku no Shiro). Perched atop a 353-meter-high mountain peak, the fortress was constructed in 1431 by Yamana Sozen, a powerful daimyo of the Sengoku period. The surviving stone walls are exceptional examples of defense architecture from that era, stretching over 400 meters from north to south. The most spectacular natural phenomenon occurs on autumn mornings when dense fog fills the valley, leaving only the ruins visible above the sea of clouds. Following the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, the castle was abandoned, leading to the decay of its wooden structures while the massive stone foundations endured the centuries. Today, the site is one of the region's most significant historical attractions, drawing hikers and photographers eager to witness the mystical atmosphere of the abandoned fortress.
