Azito Power Plant (Côte d’Ivoire)

Weather…

The Azito power plant in the Yopougon commune of Abidjan is one of the most powerful and efficient gas power plants in West Africa. Since its commissioning in 1999, it has played a key role in stabilizing the Ivorian power grid. Azito also utilizes domestic natural gas and has been gradually expanded into a modern combined cycle plant. The latest expansion phase (Phase IV), completed in 2022/2023, has increased capacity to over 700 MW. By using the waste heat from the gas turbines for steam generation, additional energy is obtained without extra fuel consumption, making Azito one of the region's most environmentally friendly fossil energy sources. The power plant is an essential part of the country's energy strategy, positioning itself as an energy hub for West Africa, supplying electricity to countries like Ghana, Benin, and Togo.
