Trevi Fountain (Italy)

Weather…

The Trevi Fountain is the largest and most famous Baroque fountain in Rome, located in the Trevi district. It was designed by Nicola Salvi and completed after his death by Giuseppe Pannini and others, inaugurated in 1762. The fountain marks the terminal point of the ancient Aqua Virgo aqueduct, built in 19 BC to supply water to Rome. The central figure of the fountain is the god Neptune, standing on a shell-shaped chariot pulled by two sea horses. One of the horses is calm and obedient, the other is restive and wild, representing the changing moods of the sea. A popular tradition holds that visitors who throw a coin over their left shoulder into the fountain will ensure their return to Rome. An estimated 3,000 euros are thrown into the fountain each day, with the money collected and donated to charity. The fountain was built from travertine stone and stands as a striking example of late Baroque art and architecture, attracting visitors from all over the globe.
