Buggerru is dramatically situated in a deep gorge on the wild southwest coast of Sardinia, opening out to the open sea. Once an important center of Sardinian mining, the town was often referred to as the "Little Paris" of the region. Today, historical relics and mining tunnels such as the famous Galleria Henry tell the story of this industrial past. The atmosphere in the town is authentic, slightly rugged, but incredibly pleasant and welcoming. The beaches in and around Buggerru are among the most beautiful and wildest in Sardinia. Right in the town is the Spiaggia di Buggerru, which merges seamlessly into the fine sandy Plaja Is Compinxius/Spiaggia I Pini. A little further north, the endless expanses of Spiaggia di San Nicolò and Spiaggia di Portixeddu are impressive. An absolute highlight of the region, however, is Spiaggia Cala Domestica, a deeply carved, fjord-like bay of unparalleled beauty, while Sa Caleta tends to attract visitors seeking tranquility. For active holidaymakers, Buggerru is a true paradise. The constant winds make the coast a hotspot for surfers, while the rugged mountainous hinterland features good conditions for hiking and climbing. The local gastronomy rewards adventurers with fresh fish, traditional Pane Carasau, and hearty meat dishes. A visit here promises an untamed, genuine slice of Sardinia away from the crowds.
