💡 Tips

  • Pay attention to the wind: if the Mistral or Scirocco is blowing strongly on Costa Rei, head to the more sheltered coves further south towards Villasimius.
  • Blue-line parking near the main beaches requires payment during summer; download a local parking app or carry coins.
  • Drive up to Monte Nai during sunset for a spectacular panoramic view of the entire coastline.
  • September is the good time to visit: the sea water remains wonderfully warm, but the peak summer crowds have dispersed.

Costa Rei is a magnificent stretch of coast in southeastern Sardinia, renowned for its fine sandy beach spanning over 12 kilometers. The settlement at the foot of Monte Nai consists mainly of villas and holiday homes that blend harmoniously into the Mediterranean macchia. The water here is particularly shallow and crystal clear, making Costa Rei one of the most popular destinations for families with children. A striking landmark at the southern end of the beach is the Scoglio di Peppino, a flat granite rock in the sea forming a small natural lagoon. The surroundings are characterized by hilly landscapes and fertile plains where citrus fruits and grapes are grown. Behind the coast lie the Sette Fratelli mountains, a nature reserve offering excellent opportunities for hiking and mountain biking. During the summer months, Costa Rei features a good infrastructure with markets, restaurants, and bars, while maintaining a more relaxed character compared to other resorts. Arrival is via the scenic highway from Cagliari in about 60 minutes. Besides beach life, a visit to the nearby former agricultural colony of Castiadas is worthwhile, which now hosts cultural exhibitions and wine tastings.
