Capoliveri is situated on a 167-meter-high ridge in the southeast of the Tuscan island of Elba. The village has preserved its medieval character with narrow alleys and typical stone arches. In the past, the economy depended heavily on iron ore mining on Mount Calamita; old mining facilities such as the Ginevro mine can be visited today. The municipality's territory covers a peninsula and includes numerous coves. Spiaggia del Cannello is located near the old mining area. Other notable coastal sections include the beaches of Spiaggia dello Stagnone, Spiaggia di Malpasso, Spiaggia di Buzzancone, and the forest-fringed Calanova. Most beaches here are characterized by clear water and a quieter atmosphere compared to the rest of the island. Today, Capoliveri is one of Elba's main tourist centers. The squares of the historic center fill with visitors in the evening, while the surrounding slopes are covered with vineyards. Local winemakers produce the renowned Aleatico dessert wine, which is served in the village's many restaurants and wine bars.
