Miltown Malbay is situated in west County Clare, positioned a short distance inland from the rugged Atlantic coastline. The town has achieved international fame as a premier hub for traditional Irish music, most notably through the annual Willie Clancy Summer School established in 1973. Founded in its modern layout during the late 18th century, the town's growth was historically linked to the adjacent seaside resort of Spanish Point. While agriculture and fishing once drove the local economy, cultural and coastal tourism are now the primary economic pillars. The surrounding landscape features significant geological sites and dramatic cliffs that form part of the renowned Wild Atlantic Way. The town's aesthetic is defined by its spirited main street, lined with colorful storefronts and traditional pubs famous for impromptu musical sessions. Miltown Malbay serves as a vital cultural repository, preserving folk traditions while accommodating modern seasonal crowds and providing essential services to the West Clare region.
