Banbridge is a thriving town in County Down, Northern Ireland, situated on the River Bann. Its development took off in the 18th century as a key stop on the mail coach route between Dublin and Belfast. By the 19th century, it had become one of Ireland's primary centers for the linen industry, with numerous mills operating along the river's banks. A unique engineering feature of the town is 'The Cut,' an artificial lowering of the main street completed in 1834 to reduce the steep incline for mail coach horses; this necessitated the construction of the iconic Jinglers Bridge that spans the road. Today, Banbridge is a major regional retail hub, well-known for 'The Boulevard' outlet shopping center. Culturally, the town has gained international fame recently due to its proximity to 'Game of Thrones' filming locations and the opening of the official Game of Thrones Studio Tour. The town's architecture reflects the wealth of the Victorian era, with many well-preserved buildings along its wide main street. Its strategic location on the A1 corridor ensures its continued importance as a link between the north and south.
