Tarkarli
Situated on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra, Tarkarli is a haven for scuba diving and snorkeling. The waters are exceptionally clear, offering visibility up to 20 feet. A major draw is the nearby Sindhudurg Fort, a massive 17th-century sea fortress built by the Maratha empire. The landscape is unique due to the confluence of the Karli River and the Arabian Sea, creating beautiful backwaters. Visitors can stay in traditional houseboats and explore the quiet mangroves and villages along the river. Tarkarli is less commercialized than Goa, providing a more authentic Konkan experience. The local Malvani cuisine, famous for its fresh seafood and coconut-based curries, is a highlight for food lovers. The best time for water sports is from November to March when the sea is calm. It is accessible via the Mopa Airport or Kudal railway station.
